We Did It!
And we didn't even need help. When we took the sliding door and the half a ton of lumber they packaged it in off, I could lift it, no problem.
It was way easier than I would have thought and we were pretty much done before dinner time. Then we went off to Lowes, to get some trim and moulding (this doors a different size and the old moulding won't fit.). Not until after we had a contractors dinner, hot dogs and nachos from 7-11 eaten on the tailgate of DeWitte's truck. We'll finish it tomorrow.
Any ideas on window treatments (that's a fancy way of saying curtains.)? I haven't figured that part out yet.
Anyway, here's some pictures. I'm off to the shower because I smell like expanding foam and saw dust.

Oh, wow... you guys are my HEROES! We need to do this too, and while we have been volunteered the help of one of our very talented friends, it scares the heck out of me to have that kind of gaping hole in my house for any length of time.
So cool of you to post this... thanks for the inspiration! :) And it couldn't be more beautiful, congrats on the perfect job :)
Why can't a curtain be called a curtain, a blind a blind and a shade a shade?
those temporary paper shades. about eight wide. they stick up and you have these cool plastic clips to secure them with. play with shapes! obelisk? no problem.............
leave me alone with your remodel.......you're just looking for an excuse to ostracize the proletariat...
