Thai Food

Comments

Pad thai is the standard thai dish, from what I know, and it's pretty inoffensive unless you don't like noodles. I think Satay is the skewered chicken, that's also pretty basic, usually comes with a peanut dipping sauce. And I'm no connoisseur of Thai food, I've really only had it a few times (I'm not including my noodle boxes from trader joes...) so I'm not too well versed with it yet...
I've just recently started eating Thai food. There is this one dish called param, usually made with chicken. it's a peanut and coconut curry sauce. it's the SHIT. but probably insanely high in calories, so it should be reserved for splurging :)

Thai curry in general is good, too. Its a little different from Indian curries.

Anything in peanut sauce is my rule.
Chicken pad thai rocks the world! Peanuts, noodles, chicken, I think a little bit of egg (in case you're allergic to anything). I second cranky on the Satay. But you know, I really just like food. :-)

I'm not a huge fan of coconut or peanuts, so I never get Pad Thai or half the other dishes on the menu. I almost always find the dish that's a bunch of veggies, chicken, and glass/clear/cellophane/silver/jelly noodles (called Pad Woon Sen perhaps?). They are thin little noodles and are soooo good. It's usually in some sort of thai soy sauce. Very little not to like in the dish. :)

I also love thai yellow curry. Mmmm.

I've never had it and aren't very adventurous.
I love Thai food. I like the green curries especially but all the curries--red and yellow--are super yum. And I love the soups--chicken or shrimp in a coconut milk broth with lemongrass.
There are some Thai foods that I like, but I couldn't tell you what they are if you paid me millions. I just tend to go by the menu descriptions, since I'm kinda picky.

If all else fails, though, you could always check out this place.
Both my 2.5 year old and I LOVE Pad See Euw with tofu. It is a wide noodle dish with egg, broccoli and tofu in a yummy brown sauce.
Yum....drooling here. You can't beat the peanut/coconut milk sauces. YUM but definitely for a RARE occasion.
the curries are pretty basic, and generally pretty safe.
chicken satay is just skewered roasted chicken with usually a spicy peanut dipping sauce, and maybe a sweet cucumber relish on the side.

What kind of things have you had that you didn't like?
Have you tried pineapple fried rice? Or masaman curry? I agree, peanut / coconut dishes, I can't remember if they have rice noodles but those are great.
I get that with chicken. REALLY yummy. :) I love it. I need to go eat...
Avoid the seafood, and try - The Crying Tiger- or the Red chicken curries, those are usually the best and get the light sauce you can dip it into.
[this is good]
Kee Mao baby! It is usually pretty hot which I love. Its a wide drunken noodle and I get it with beef. Some places have bamboo in it (boo) or broccoli...i like that better.

I always get Kee Mao (or Khi Mao) and Yellow Curry...can't go wrong with that...and don't forget to make it EXTRA HOT!
So what did you end up getting? We were comtemplating Thai or Korean and Korean won out. Mmmm, Bulgogi. If we had gone for Thai, I would've gone for my Pad Thai Noodles and Mango with Sweet Sticky Rice for dessert. Steve always gets the Chicken with Cashews. Neither of us are big on dishes with curry.
I couldn't tell you if my life depended on it. I know we thought we were gonna like it but were really disappointed. The second time was something with coconut milk, which I love, but we didn't like that either. Hopefully, with recommendations in hand, the third time will be the charm.
We're going for lunch today..we've got a buy one/get one coupon. I think I'm gonna try the Pad See Euw, I'm not sure about DeWitte and Nathan will be stuck with whatever we get.
