I Can See Clearly Now...
It all started last week. DeWitte's got these two
big servers..about three feet high, a foot and a half wide and two feet deep..I
measured. That wouldn't be bad but they were sitting in the middle of my living
room. While extremely unattractive, they did come in awfully handy to put your
drink on but not handy enough to keep. I've already got end tables for stuff
like that. DeWitte decided to clear off the drives and give them to one of his
geek friends.
He cleared off the drives and emailed said geek
friends because you never call geek friends, you probably don't even know
their phone number, you always email them. Geek friend emailed back that he'd
love the servers, might even marry them and he'd be over Friday night. That
means a stranger's coming over so I've got to clean this place better than
normal...which means I just need to clean.
I knew at least on Tuesday that I had to whip this
place into some kind of order by Friday at 6:30 so I went ahead and got started
at 3 on Friday afternoon. I got everything picked up and I start to vacuum only
the vacuum isn't sucking like it should. I've got marbles and magnets and
pennies to vacuum up, that thing needs to work. I open it up to find that not
only is the bag totally full, there's a hose shaped thing if lint sticking out
at least a half a foot. Ok..time to change that bag. Only I'm out.
Figures.
Alright, times ticking, make a quick run to Sears,
the only place I can buy my vacuum bags. I get in the car and see that I'm out
of gas and the AC's broken, which would be fine if I
wasn't broke, it wasn't a hundred degrees outside and it wasn't so smoky from
the wild fires that it makes your eyes burn. DeWitte's been driving my car to
work because his truck costs forty-five bucks a day, so I immediately blame him,
curse his name and head on off to the gas station. I put in fifteen dollars and
head to the mall.
We hit every single red light on the way. Windows
open, sun and smoke beating down, it was fun. Got to the mall, ran in and got my
five dollar's worth of vacuum bags and head home. On the way home, we hear
there's a thunder storm warning and sure enough, the sky started getting black.
The temperature dropped to 98, so that was nice but now I'm in a race to get
home before the rain pours down on top of my open windowed, open sun-roofed car.
We hit all the light on the way back. It got darker and darker, the lighting
getting closer and closer, the thunder louder and louder. We pulled in the
driveway and ran in the house just as the rain came down..whew! Maybe things are
starting to go my way.
I threw out the old fifteen hundred pound vacuum
bag and went to replace it with my new twenty dollar vacuum bag only to see it
wouldn't fit. Well, it was about 4:30 by that time and I still had to cook
dinner, so I made that bad boy fit. I made Nathan dust while I turn on
the vacuum..booooo and then the power went out..ooobbbb. Then it came back on
again..boooo and then it went off ooooobbb. I spent the next forty five min.
vacuuming the living room in that fashion. boooo..ooobbbb. boooo...oooobbb but I
got it done. And I got dinner ready so that we could be done well
before 6:30.
Too bad the guy never showed up, he must have found a used Cray to marry instead. No matter, the
living room was clean enough on Saturday morning that we could get some other
stuff done. Like take down all the curtains and wash them and then wash all the
windows, inside and out and rearranged the furniture. With the couch at the angle
it's at now and the windows being so pretty and clean, you can see the servers
sitting out on the front porch that much better now. At least they're out of the
living room.
